The busiest month is August, with about 259,619 overnight stays in registered tourist lodging. The quietest is January, with about 43,713. Both are averages of 2023-2025, from INE, Statistics Portugal.

How the score works
- Warmth. A mean temperature between 17 and 24 °C scores best. The score falls to zero at 8 °C and at 30 °C.
- Dryness. The more rain a day, the lower the score. 5 mm a day or more scores zero.
- Crowds. A full month loses up to 70% of its score. A month half as busy as the peak loses 35%.
We use the mean temperature, not the daily high. A "hottest day" number makes summer look worse than it feels for most of the day. The full rule, and why we chose it, is on the method page.
